KARACHI: Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli has donated his signed cricket bat to former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi for his foundation Shahid Afridi Foundation.
“Thank you @imVkohli for your kind gesture in support of @SAFoundationN. Friends & supporters like you ensure #HopeNotOut for everyone,” Tweeted Afridi from his official account with a photograph of the Kohli’s signed bat.
Virat Kohli was quick to reply and wished Afridi the best for his foundation.
“You’re most welcome Shahid Bhai. Wishing you and the @SAFoundationN all the luck for the upcoming events. #HopeNotOut,” tweeted the Indian skipper quoting Shahid Afridi’s tweet.
Shahid Afridi, meanwhile, spoke to Geo News and said that Kohli’s gesture is great sign for humanity.
“We must encourage good things, regardless of who is doing it,” said Afridi.
“Kohli is a legend and he has always been very supportive and I am very thankful to him for his support,” he added.
Afridi confirmed that Kohli’s bat will be auctioned for his Thar hospital project and the auction will take place in New Castle, England.
A signed jersey of Virat Kohli was also auctioned on Monday by the Shahid Afridi foundation.
According to reports the winning bid for the jersey was 4,300 Euros.
Afridi added that people should support each other.
“People in Pakistan want to watch Kohli in Pakistan. I have played a lot in India and can never forget the respect people gave me there,” Afridi said.
“We are not politicians and have nothing to do with politics, we are ambassadors and we must continue to give good message,” he added.
