Gun attacks across the city claimed the lives of eight more people, including two policemen and an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, on Monday.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Javaid Awan was at a teashop near Lasbela Bridge when motorcyclists opened fire on him.
Awan and four others were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in an injured condition. ASI Awan, Iqbal alias Bali and Shehzad Akhtar succumbed to their injuries during treatment. They had suffered multiple bullets to the upper torso.
Awan was posted at the Jamshed Quarters police station. All the three victims were residents of the same locality.
Constable shot dead
After completing their duty, police constables Ahmed Ali and Amjad Ali were returning home when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on them near Godam Chowrangi in Korangi.
The constables were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in an injured condition. Ahmed Ali succumbed to his injuries during treatment. He had suffered multiple bullets to the upper torso.
The victim was posted at the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, East Range. He was a resident of Korangi Industrial Area.
MQM activist killed
Arshad, 35, was riding his motorcycle to work when four bikers opened fire on him near Arena Club on Karsaz Road in Bahadurabad.
He was taken to the JPMC, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. He had suffered four bullets to the upper torso, including one to the head.
SDPO Nisar Qaimkhani said the victim was an MQM activist from the PIB sector and an employee of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board. He lived in Landhi.
‘Drug peddler’ slain
Sajjad was near Safoora Chowrangi in the Sachal police precincts when two motorcyclists opened fire on him.He was taken to the JPMC, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. He had suffered bullets to the head and chest.
Sohrab Goth SDPO Khalid Khan said the victim was involved in a number of cases of drug peddling and he was also nominated in a case of Zina (adultery/fornication) at the Sachal police station. He was a resident of the same locality.
‘Criminal’ gunned down
Shahid Hussain was standing outside his apartment building in Block 19 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar when two motorcyclists opened fire on him.He was taken to the JPMC in an injured condition. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment. He had suffered two bullets to the upper torso.Sharea Faisal SHO Aamir Hussain said the victim was a habitual criminal wanted by the police of Gulistan-e-Jauhar and other localities. He was currently out on bail, added the SHO.
Teenager shot dead
An unidentified teenager was gunned down in the Pak Colony police precincts. Police said they received information of a man lying dead at Love Lane Bridge.A patrolling mobile shifted the body to the ASH and aired a message on police control. The victim had suffered multiple bullets to the upper torso. Police said the deceased appeared to be in his teens.
