Across Karachi, several vendors have set up their stalls – selling fruit or other Iftar items – on footpaths or roads, creating difficult for the smooth flow of the vehicular traffic. Almost every area of the city is facing this problem. Many people on their way home prefer buying from these vendors. They park their car in the middle of the road, leading to a severe traffic jam. These fruit sellers mostly set up their stalls on busy roads – so they can get more customers. For example, during the evenings – mostly an hour before Iftar – main arteries of Saddar, Sharah-e-Faisal and Gulshan-e-Iqbal witness the worst traffic jams. People wait for a long time to get the roads cleared.
The traffic authorities must take notice of this matter and try to come up with a solution. Vendors should only be allowed to sell fruits inside a market and not on footpaths or roads.
