Noise pollution has resulted in countless problems for Karachi’s residents. It has adversely affected their physical and mental health. Frequent exposure to loud noise has reduced people’s efficiency and has, in extreme circumstances, led to a loss of hearing. Efforts to control noise levels through regulations are not given too much significance and are, in many cases, openly flouted.
The relevant authorities must understand the dangers of noise pollution and make a concerted effort to enforce noise control laws. Noise-producing factories that are situated in residential areas should be shifted to the outskirts of the city. The use of loudspeaker should be confined to a specific duration. Above all, people need to adopt a cooperative attitude. Without public support, the authorities will be unable to make much of a difference. Immediate and urgent action needs to be taken against those who are responsible for noise pollution.
