Rangers killed an alleged Taliban commander and arrested two other suspects in a raid in Sohrab Goth on Friday.
Sources in the paramilitary force said that acting on a tip-off received by the Rangers intelligence wing that members of a banned outfit were present in the Lasi Goth area of Sohrab Goth, a battalion comprising commandos rushed to the area.
They sealed off the entry and exit points of Lasi Goth and entered the locality. The militants opened fire on the paramilitary force and the latter retaliated.
Three militants were arrested, one of them in an injured condition, while their associates managed to escape.
The injured militant, identified as Naimatullah Mehsud, a senior Taliban commander, was pronounced dead at a hospital.
While searching the terrorists’ hideout, the Rangers seized weapons, documents and a laptop.
Rangers arrested 29 suspects in search operations in Sohrab Goth and Mehmoodabad.
The search operation in the Al-Asif Square area of Sohrab Goth began at dawn and continued till 12:30pm.
The paramilitary force arrested 18 suspects, including Uzbeks and militants of a banned outfit, and also seized arms and ammunitions.
The Rangers said 11 suspects, including target killers and arsonists, were arrested in Chaneser Goth of Mehmoodabad. Arms and ammunitions were also seized.
The suspects were shifted to unidentified locations for interrogation.
