Sangakkara wanted me to play fearless cricket: Usama Mir

SHARJAH: Leg-spinner Usama Mir said on Wednesday that the skipper Karachi Kings Kumar Sangakkara instructed him to give his 100 percent and play fearless cricket in the match against Islamabad United. Sangakkara's catch built momentum in win against United: Imad Waseem

Sarfaraz says credit for success goes to Nawaz

SHARJAH: Skipper Quetta Gladiators Sarfaraz Ahmed said that bowling second was a tough task for his bowlers but all credit to Muhammad Nawaz for bowling a tremendous over to defend last seven runs. Speaking in a post-match press conference, Ahmed said that Nawaz executed the plan pretty well for the team. “When it was 2 runs required off 2 balls, we knew that we have raised our chances to win this game. All credit to Nawaz who delivered perfect yorkers on the occasion,” he said. “I spoke with Nawaz and told him that it was his time to shine. Kamran Akmal excited about PSL final in Lahore

SHARJAH: Peshawar Zalmi wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal is already looking forward to the final of the Pakistan Super League in Lahore. Talking to Geo.TV ahead of the first playoff against Quetta Gladiators tonight, the batsman said his entire team is excited about Lahore hosting the final of the tournament. “My entire team and I personally are very excited and happy that cricket is coming back to Pakistan. What can be better than the final of the PSL being held in Lahore? There could be no bigger achievement than this,” said Akmal, who is the top-scorer this PSL for Zalmi with 208 runs to his name. The batsman praised the efforts of the Pakistan Cricket Board for making this feat possible. “I give credit to PCB and PSL for making this happen. All of our domestic tournaments are held in Pakistan and they are all held safely. It’s time for PSL to come to our country as well,” he said. Julien Fountain will travel to Lahore if Quetta qualifies

SHARJAH: Julien Fountain, Pakistan Cricket team’s former fielding coach and currently the fielding coach of PSL team Quetta Gladiators, has confirmed that he will travel to Lahore if Quetta qualifies for the final of Pakistan Super League. The Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday confirmed that it has the permission from government in hand to host PSL2017 final in Lahore, and Julien Fountain has termed this move as fantastic. England based Fountain, who was first appointed Pakistan’s specialist coach in 2006 under Bob Woolmer and then re-appointed for a two-year stint from 2012, told that he’s looking forward to visit Lahore for the final. “I’m member of Quetta staff and if they make it to final, I will be traveling to Lahore. I have lived in Lahore and have many found memories of living there, so I’m really looking forward to it,” he said when asked if he would visit to Lahore. “Lahore is an amazing city, I really enjoyed my time there. Wonderful people, wonderful place. I really had good time so I’m looking forward to traveling lahore myself,” said 46 year old Julien Fountain. Convincing international players to play PSL final in Lahore, says Shoaib Malik

SHARJAH: Star all-rounder and senior Karachi Kings player Shoaib Malik on Wednesday said that he is convincing international players playing in his team to play Pakistan Super League`s final in Lahore. Speaking with, the right-handed batsman said that: “I don’t take security at home, I have informed the players here that my wife is an Indian national and even she doesn’t take security whenever she visits Pakistan.” Malik reiterated that the collective effort today for the authorities must be to bring the PSL to Pakistan. “Though I don’t think it’s fair to compare leagues but I think going by standard of cricket after Big Bash, PSL takes the stand. And by God`s grace it’s getting better day by day,” he said, when questioned where PSL stands compare with other international t20 leagues. He predicted that the PSL would be getting huge in the coming days but immediately added that hence there is a huge responsibility on players, media and the people of Pakistan. I will always remember those who stood with me in difficult times, says Shahzad

SHARJAH: Quetta Gladiators’ opening batsman Ahmad Shahzad said that he will always remember those who stood with him in stressful times and also those who left him stranded.  In an interview, Shahzad said: “I will remember those who stood with me in difficult times and also those who didn’t,” further adding, “ups and downs are part and parcel of a player’s career,” he cited example of Indian star Virat Kohli, who admitted that he was on the verge of being dropped a couple of times but Dhoni came to his rescue. The right-hand batsman reiterated that he has learnt substantially during past few months by reflecting on his uneven journey and said that now he is more focused on giving better performances over being concerned about people’s opinion about him. “I’ve got seniors like Inzamam, Waseem bhai and Shahid Afridi, who have always helped me to regain focus and sail through difficult times,” Shahzad said. Islamabad United win thriller off last ball

SHARJAH: Riding on a match-winning half-century by Dwayne Smith, Islamabad – the defending champions of Pakistan Super League – defeated Peshawar Zalmi by five wickets after a nail-biting encounter to register a third win in the second edition of PSL in Sharjah. Chasing a target of 137 in 20 overs, Islamabad didn’t get a solid start. While Smith remained defiant at the one end, United’s wickets continue to fall from the other end. Rafatullah Mohmand, Brad Haddin, Sam Billings and Misbah ul Haq went back to pavilion cheaply as Islamabad lost four wickets with 75 runs on board in 13 overs. But, Smith remained defiant at other end and got good support from Shane Watson to keep Islamabad’s hunt alive. Smith smashed four sixes and six fours to remain not out after scoring 72 off 59. Watson scored 30 off 22 before getting run out on penultimate delivery of the innings as Islamabad reached the target on last ball. Earlier, a disciplined bowling effort by Islamabad United restricted Peshawar Zalmi to 136/9 on a, comparatively, batting friendly track. Zalmis struggled throughout the match to buildup partnerships as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Islamabad United partner with WWF Pakistan for #SaveOurSnowLeopard campaign

SHARJAH: Islamabad United have partnered with WWF Pakistan to champion the cause of conservation of snow leopards in Pakistan. The franchise has joined hands with the organisation for the #SaveOurSnowLeopardSOS campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the issue and ensure a safe future for the snow leopards. The snow leopard is an endangered species, with only 200-400 left in the wild in Pakistan. The United team is wearing shirts with the message “Save Our Snow Leopard” to raise awareness about the campaign.
