The residents of Sector 7D/3 North Karachi are facing great difficulties because of the supply of unhygienic and contaminated drinking water. The contaminated drinking water creates serious health concerns for residents. The water unsafe for consumption is responsible for the spread of diseases like hepatitis, diarrhoea and chikungunya. Multiple complaints have been lodged, but no action has been taken so far. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board is not looking into the matter seriously. It is the responsibility of the government to provide safe drinking water to the people, but the Sindh government has turned a blind eye to this serious problem.
Recently, some news reports stated that the drinking water supplied to Sindh contains viruses that may cause Hepatitis B, blood deficiency and malnutrition in children. Later, some media reports revealed that certain life-threatening diseases were spread throughout the province because of the consumption of the substandard water. Water is one of the basic necessities. It is the basic right of the people to have access to safe drinking water. The Sindh government must take notice of this issue. Necessary directions should be given to concerned department to make sure that the water supplied across the province is fit for consumption.
