An earthquake hit Awaran and some neighbouring villages of Kech in 2013. Owing to this tragic incident, more than 500 people lost their lives and thousands of people became homeless. After the incident, the former chief minister of Balochistan, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, visited Awaran and vowed to rebuild the homes of earthquake victims. Now, almost five years later, no work has been done to reconstruct the damaged houses. The Housing Rehabilitation Awaran (HRA) hasn’t dispatched cheques to the affected.
The higher authorities are strongly requested to look into the matter. They must speed up the process of rebuilding homes since many people are still living in small cottages and make-shift tents. It is the responsibility of the government to work for the welfare of the people.
