Voicing concern over the disappearance of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s nine workers, the party’s coordination committee deplored that “the law-enforcement personnel are abducting the party’s workers daily”.
This was stated by coordination committee member Haider Abbas Rizvi while speaking at a press conference at the Khursheed Begum Secretariat in Azizabad on Wednesday.
Other members, including Nasreen Jalil, Mumtaz Anwaar, Kunwar Naveed Jamil, Aamir Khan, Aslam Afridi and Wasay Jalil, were also present.
Rizvi said the MQM had not come out of the shock it had received in the wake of the “extrajudicial” killing of its worker Ajmal Baig, when three more workers of the party were murdered on Wednesday.
Deploring the incidents, he appealed to set up vigilance committees in their localities to keep a vigil on suspicious vehicles and people.
He also urged the people that in case they came across suspicious activities, they should film them with their mobile phones and upload them on social media websites or release them to the media.
Besides, there should be a strict vigil on the vehicles that ply without number plates as well as on “personnel in plainclothes so as to expose the elements involved in unconstitutional and unlawful killing of innocent citizens and extra-judicial killings”, he added.
The coordination committee demanded the government to take immediate notice of continuous killings and injuring of the MQM’s workers and to take concrete measures for the protection of the lives and properties of the party workers.
