Unremitting incidents of targeted attacks across the city have claimed the lives of seven more people, including activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Sunni Tehreek, the police said on Saturday.
The Steel Town police said the bullet-riddled body of MQM activist Aamir Sheikh, 32, was recovered from Gulshan-e-Hadeed. The deceased was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Station House Officer Muhammad Haroon Korai said Sheikh, a resident of Jacob Lines, was outside his in-laws’ residence in Lines Area on Friday evening when suspects in a HiAce van kidnapped him. He was then tortured and shot dead.
He was an employee of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and a senior member of the MQM’s Ranchore Line sector. He is survived by a widow and three children.
Sheikh’s murder resulted in tension developing in the Old City area where MQM activists staged a demonstration and demanded bringing the killers to book.
The funeral prayer of the deceased was offered near the Tibet Centre on the MA Jinnah Road, and it was attended by MQM leaders and workers. According to some reports, Sheikh’s father-in-law Zafar died of cardiac arrest during the funeral.
ST man gunned down
The Shah Faisal Colony police said ST activist Kashif Shah, 35, was gunned down in Shah Faisal Colony No 5.
SDPO Shakeel Awan said Shah, a resident of Shah Faisal Colony No 5 and a former unit in-charge of the ST, was outside his house when two motorcyclists opened fire on him. He was taken to the JPMC where he died.
Another ST man killed
The Garden police said ST activist Babar Qadri was shot on Friday night on the Nishtar Road. He was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi where he succumbed to his injuries.
SHO Saleem Naz said Qadri, a resident of Ranchore Line, was targeted by two motorcyclists. He was a sector convener of the ST’s Lyari sector. Qadri’s murder resulted in tension developing in the area where ST leaders and workers staged a demonstration, and demanded bringing the killers to book.
Man, son shot dead
The Mubina Town police said Kalb-e-Abbas, 50, and his son Musarrat Abbas, 25, were at Al-Abbas Communications, Gulshan View Apartments when two motorcyclists opened fire on them. They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
Police said the victims were residents of Metroville-III and Kalb-e-Abbas owned the shop where they were targeted. Their family had shifted to Mubina Town a few weeks back and they had recently opened the shop.
The Mochko police said contractor Shah Mehmood, 45, was sitting at a teashop in Musharraf Colony when two motorcyclists opened fire on him.
He was taken to the CHK where he succumbed to his injuries. Police said Mehmood was a resident of Sector 6S in Mochko.
Man gunned down
The Sohrab Goth police said Nadeem Mehsud, 32, was near the Ahsanabad check-post when two motorcyclists opened fire on him.
He was taken to ASH where he succumbed to his injuries. Mehsud was a resident of Dhani Bux Goth and hailed from Waziristan.
