Every year, millions of polythene or plastic bags are produced in Pakistan. These bags are non-biodegradable and a substandard polythene bag may take hundreds of years to get decomposed. These bags have devastating impact on the environment and on all forms of wild and marine life.Initially, the polythene bags were used for carrying groceries only but now they have made their way into agriculture as well where they are largely used for artificial tunnel farming. Hundreds of feet of polythene bags per acre are being used at a high cost of environment degradation.
In this regard, a strict governmental policy and public awareness campaign must be started before it’s too late. The sooner we can rid ourselves of this menace the better it will be for our planet and all of its inhabitants.
