Use of force by police that led to the killing of two lawyers in Daska was unwarranted, said a statement issued by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Tuesday.
It said that the killings were condemnable and sought an immediate assessment of rules that govern police operations in the province. It said the inquiry should be held in consultation with a cross section of the society and its findings be shared with the public. The statement urged lawyers to ensure that their demonstrations in protest over the killings were peaceful. In particular, it said, public or private property should not be damaged during such demonstrations.
