This refers to the article, ‘A national innovation policy’ (Jun 14), by Atta-ur-Rahman. After a long time, someone has written the article that paints a rosy picture of the country’s future. The writer has talked has suggested the introduction of a national innovation policy and has stressed upon tapping the potential of science, technology and innovation (STI). With this proposed innovation policy, the country would be able to manufacture and export high tech products.
Another important point that he points out is the allocation of fund for research and development. Currently, the government has allocated Rs2 billion for research and development. This amount is at least 100 times less than the amount allocated to the ongoing transportation projects like the Orange Line Metro Train Project and the Metro Bus Project. The writer has also given a sound suggestion: fresh graduates should not be only searching for a job. Instead they should be encouraged and helped with guidance and financial aid to become entrepreneurs and be able to employ other youngsters. This way the business sector of the country will flourish.
