In accordance with SRO280 (I) 2013, the sales tax amounting of Rs1, 000 for every cell phone will be imposed in case of   satellite phones  or  smart phones where term smart phones indicates a mobile phone having the following features of 4GB or more basic memory, Operating system like  androidv2. 3, iOS, Touch Screen, Blackberry RIM , Windows 8 ,   android gingerband, 5 mega pixel  and dual core processor

An amount of Rs500 for each smart cell phone would be charged in situation of mobile phone other then smartphone and satellite phone.

Azad Lalani the Mobile director of Teletec stated that the 2G cell phones right now price Rs500 more as well as smartphone have become more expensive by the Rs1, 000. He explained that federal government didn’t consult stakeholders prior to taking that decision. ” Citizens were satisfied while utilizing the lower-cost Chinese smart cell phones, such as Voice along with other brands in budget range of 4, 000 to 5, 000 Pakistani rupees respectively.. After federal government decision, inexpensive smartphone cost would increase by  1, 000 Pakistani rupees respectively. “

He also mentioned that smart cell phone imports had been growing, but this increase of the General sales tax would harm sales and negatively impact on imports and he was of the viewpoint that smart cellphone imports float in between 2 million and 2. 8 million for every month. He also said that in March a close to 2. 8m cell phones were imported.

Mr.Azad believed that share of  smart phones having under Rs3, 000 is 80 to 85 percent in overall imports which suggests that individuals belonging to lower and middle earnings groups would experience an immediate influence of Rs500 and plus higher taxes as well as duties would only inspire cellular phone smuggling in country.

The sales Manager of United Mobile Noman Zakariya, stated that a lot more than 90 percent of cell phones had been coming below price range of $20 per cell phone and majority of the imports were being manufactured from the China under the Free Trade Agreement. Nevertheless, federal government was gathering Rs250 per smart phone as tax on the non-FTA cell phones.
