Loadshedding has existed in the country for the last four decades. All the previous civil and military governments have failed to rid the nation of this issue. The present government had also promised to eradicate electricity loadshedding from the country during its five-year tenure.
The federal government has been taking concrete measures to establish hydro, hydel, coal and solar power in different parts of the country. It is pertinent to note that the duration of the power outages has gradually decreased in the country. On March 27, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, while addressing a public meeting in Hyderabad, stated that electricity loadshedding will be eliminated from the country by 2018. He added that 19 power projects were nearing their completion stages and were expected to become functional, one after the other, by end of 2017.
