The greatest gift that we have received is water. But the manner in which water – be it inland water, rivers, lakes, wells or canals – is being wasted and polluted in this country is shocking. The authorities in the country are not paying attention to the serious problem of contaminated groundwater that has claimed the lives of several people, both in the urban and rural areas of the country.
Why are the authorities not coming up with an effective water policy to tackle the issue? It is the responsibility of the government to cultivate civic sense about the judicious use of water. Since the country is already on the brink of being a water-stressed country, now is the time to act.
