We are often quick to blame the government for all our problems. While it is mostly the authorities’ responsibility to provide better living conditions to citizens, the latter too has a responsibility of performing the duties of a responsible citizen. Keeping one’s country neat and clean is the prime responsibility of every citizen. We always try to keep our homes clean, but we pay no attention to heaps of garbage lying on streets partly because of our own doing. Many people do not throw garbage in bins. They conveniently throw it on streets, polluting the environment.
Wrappers and plastic shopping bags carelessly thrown out of windows often get stuck in drains, resulting in stagnant water. This dirty water is a breeding ground of mosquitoes which spread all kind of life-threatening diseases, including malaria, dengue and chikungunya. We should not always blame the government for every problem, but should take steps to keep our country clean.
