Azan TV beat i3H Emerging Talent

KARACHI: Azan TV defeated i3H Emerging Talent by 10 runs in their match of the 22nd Dr MA Shah Night Trophy here at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium on Friday night.

Azan TV posted 166-9 in the allotted 20 overs with Sami Afridi scoring a fine 84 off 57 balls, striking 11 fours and three sixes.

Furqan Khalil belted a 21-ball 23 with two fours and a six. Qaiser Atiq made a valuable 12-ball 21 with four fours.

Spinners Zaki Khan got 4-21 and Waseem Dilawar captured 3-29.

i3H Emerging Talent, in response, were restricted to 156-9. Sufyan Khan hit a 38-ball 42 with two fours and one six. Dedar Azeem chipped in with a 26-ball 35 with four fours and a six. Waseem Dilawar cracked 33 off 17 balls, hammering four fours and two sixes. Ali Khan, Hamza Ansari, Hanan Achakzai and Rabish Ahmed got two wickets each.

Haider stars as KG demolish Acme Technologies

KARACHI: Haider Ali spun hosts Karachi Gymkhana to an emphatic 56-run victory  over Acme Technologies in their Group B encounter of the 32nd edition of the Omar Associates Karachi Gymkhana Ramazan Festival Twenty20 Cricket Tournament 2016 here at the Karachi Gymkhana Cricket Ground on Saturday.

The Karachi Gymkhana left-arm spinner Haider (4-12), adjudged Man of the Match, tormented the Acme Technologies innings as they were bundled out for 106 in 17.4 overs while set a target of 163 in 20 overs.

Off-spinners Mohammad Mohsin (3-16) and Farhan Arif (2-15) also bowled effectively and didn’t allow Acme Technologies to recover after having lost the top half of their batting for only 21.

Earlier, it was the Karachi Gymkhana opener Fouz-ul-Hasam, who smashed two sixes and four boundaries in his 55 off 42 balls, who laid the foundation for a big total.

After hiccups in the middle of the innings, little cameos in the death overs from Shahrukh Ali (31 off 21 balls) and Mazhar Hussain (25 off 16 balls) raised the total to 162 for six in the allotted 20 overs.

Vinales on pole ahead of Rossi for Italian GP

LUCO DI MUGELLO, Italy: Maverick Vinales grabbed pole position on Saturday ahead of Yamaha teammate Valentino Rossi for the Italian MotoGP at Mugello.

It will be the third career pole for the 22-year-old Spaniard after the season-opener in Qatar and in France last month.

But Rossi proved he was well on the comeback trail after a training accident by setting the fastest time in free practice and then placing second behind Vinales in qualifying.

The championship leader clocked 1min 46.575sec with 38-year-old Rossi just behind at 0.260sec.

Italy’s Andrea Dovizioso of Ducati will complete the front row on Sunday with world champion Marc Marquez starting sixth on his Honda.

Ireland defeat Pakistan
in second hockey test

KARACHI: Ireland defeated Pakistan 3-2 in the second hockey test to go one up in the three-match series in Bilfast on Saturday.

Ireland took the lead but Pakistan equalised through an Aleem Bilal penalty stroke. The hosts then scored another goal before Umar Bhutta equalised again for greenshirts.

But Ireland’s third goal scored by Shane O’Donoghue off a penalty corner with a few minutes left remained unanswered. The first test ended in a 2-2 draw.
